A GUIDE TO THE RULES OF LIMIT TEXAS HOLDEM

It is important to understand that the structure of every game of poker, whether it’s Texas Hold’em, Omaha or Seven Card Stud, is based on an amount that a player can bet during each round of playing. This is what is known as “limits.” There are three forms of limits: Limit, Pot Limit and No Limit. Each refers to the style of betting in a game.

One of the most popular forms of poker is Limit Poker. Limit Poker refers to the betting scale. For example, in a 2/4 Texas Hold’em game, the numbers represent the size of the bets depending on the round of betting. In Limit Texas Hold’em, the first two rounds of betting must be the smaller denomination and the bets for the last two rounds are the higher denomination. This means that in a 2/4 Texas Hold’em game, the first two rounds of betting are $2 and the last two rounds of betting are $4.

In addition, the $2 bet represents the amount for the big blind. Therefore, when the game begins and the first round of betting gets underway, each player makes the choice to either fold, call the big blind or raise. The raise must equal the value of the last bet plus 2 on top of that. In the case of the $2 big blind, the raise would be $2, making the total bet $4.

To break it down, the bet/raise increment scale for Texas Hold’em is as follows:

Pre-flop: $2

On the Flop: $2

On the Turn: $4
