A GUIDE TO THE RULES OF LIMIT OMAHA

Whether you’re playing Texas Hold’em, Omaha or Seven Card Stud, it is important to note that each poker game is structured on the amount a player can bet in each round of action. This structure is called “limits.” There are three different kinds of limits: Limit, Pot Limit and No Limit. Each refers to the style of betting at a table.

No Limit is currently the most popular form of poker, but another common poker game is Limit Poker. Limit Poker refers to the betting scale. For example, in a 5/10 Omaha game, the numbers represent the size of the bets depending on the round of betting. In Omaha, the first two rounds of betting must be the smaller value and the bets for the last two rounds are the higher value. Simply put, a 5/10 Omaha game consists of the first two betting rounds equaling $5 and the last two betting rounds equaling $10.

Coincidentally, the $5 bet also represents the big blind amount. Therefore, when the game gets underway and the first round of betting begins, each player must choose to either fold, call the big blind or raise. The raise has to equal the value of the last bet plus 5. In the case of the $5 big blind, the raise would be $5, making the total bet $10.

The breakdown of the bet/raise increment scale for Limit Omaha is as follows:

Pre-flop: $5

On the Flop: $5

On the Turn: $10
